We tried this a few times and I could not swim straight without the guidance in the goggles.įor the final test, I swam and sighted 'normally" while my friend watched the line from the shore. With the goggles OFF, I was only able to swim about 50 feet before I heard the horn signaling me to stop because I was so far off course. Those two swims should have convinced me, but my friend suggested that I turn the goggles OFF, then try the course again without sighting. When my buddy blew the air horn, I sighted and found myself at my target near the shore. For the return trip, I set the target and once again swam without sighting. The feedback was easy to follow and I was able to focus on my breathing and pace. As I neared the end of the course, my buddy sounded an air horn for me to stop and I found myself about 20 feet from the target. I did not sight the target at all and only turned my head to breathe.
